How to use Coach to improve Seth

Coach is the assistant inside your Seth dashboard. It reads your settings and your real calls, tells you what to fix, and makes most of the changes for you.

Coach is a chat assistant that sits inside your Seth dashboard. It reads your settings and your real calls, tells you what to fix first, and then makes most of those changes for you. You never have to hunt for the right field.

Think of it as the person who knows your setup inside out. Ask it why a call went badly, what Seth is missing, or just tell it what you want changed.

Coach is in beta, so it can be wrong. Every change it suggests is shown to you before anything happens.

Where to find Coach

Open your Seth dashboard. The Coach button sits in the top right corner, next to the phone number Seth answers on. Click it and the Coach panel opens on top of the page.

The panel stays open while you move around the Seth page, so you can watch a setting change while you talk to Coach. Drag it by the handle in the top left, resize it from the bottom right corner, and use New chat to start over. Closing the panel keeps your conversation, so you can pick it up later.

What Coach can see

  • Your Seth settings. The greeting, rules, skills, knowledge, escalation, business hours, voice and language, and every built-in skill with its settings.

  • Your real calls. Recent calls with their outcome, plus the full transcript of any call, including what Seth looked up mid-call and where his answers came from.

  • The Ringly help center. So it can explain how a feature works instead of guessing.

It only sees the Seth you opened it from, and it never sees your API keys or passwords.

Asking your first question

The panel opens with three starting points. Click one, or just type your own question.

The Coach panel with the three starter questions

  • What should I fix first? Coach reads your setup and your recent calls and names the one thing with the most upside.

  • Look at a call that went badly. It picks a recent call that ended poorly, tells you which call it is, and explains what went wrong.

  • What else could Seth handle? Suggestions for work Seth could take off your hands, based on what callers are actually asking.

You can also paste a call ID from your call history page and ask about that specific call.

How changes work

Coach never changes your settings on its own. When it wants to change something, it shows you a card: what the setting is now, what it would become, and one line saying why.

A Coach card proposing a change to the Cancel orders settings, with Apply and Dismiss buttons

Removed text is crossed out in red, new text is highlighted in green, so you can see exactly what moves. Two buttons:

  • Apply. The change is saved to your Seth and Seth uses it from the next call onwards.

  • Dismiss. Nothing happens. Tell Coach what you'd rather have and it proposes again.

Once applied, the card shows a confirmation and the setting is updated in your dashboard too. Nothing needs deploying, and calls already in progress are not affected.

One card at a time. If several things need fixing, Coach proposes the biggest one first and tells you what comes next. When a change only works as a series of steps, it gives you a short plan and you apply the steps one by one.

What Coach can change for you

  • The greeting Seth opens with

  • Adding, rewording, or turning off a rule

  • Turning built-in skills on and off, like order status or returns

  • Creating, rewording, or turning off a custom skill, see custom skills

  • Adding an action to a custom skill: an API call to your system, a call transfer, or a text to the caller. It can also edit an action you already have

  • Adding fine-tune examples so Seth answers a specific moment better

  • Your escalation settings and your business hours

  • The Cancel orders and Request a return settings, like the order value Seth is allowed to cancel

  • Adding written knowledge to your knowledge base, and answering open knowledge gaps (real caller questions Seth could not answer)

  • The words Seth might mishear, so your brand and product names come through right

  • Voice, talk speed, language, and background sound

  • Your company name and the name Seth says on calls

So instead of finding the field yourself, you can say "stop cancelling orders over 300 euros" or "Seth keeps saying we ship in 3 days, it's 5" and take the card.

What Coach can't do

  • Delete anything. It can add and change, and it can switch things off, but you delete a rule or a skill yourself with the trash icon.

  • Knowledge from web pages and documents. It can add written knowledge, not crawl a URL or upload a file.

  • Phone numbers, the Shopify connection, and your helpdesk connection.

  • Blocked callers and your account settings.

  • Anything with your credentials in it. When Coach builds an API action, the auth header carries a placeholder and you paste the real key in yourself. If you paste a key into the chat, the change is refused before it reaches the card.

For those, Coach tells you exactly where to click.

Good things to ask

  • "What should I fix first?"

  • "Why did my last call end without an answer?"

  • "Callers keep asking about wholesale, can Seth handle that?"

  • "Make the greeting shorter."

  • "Don't let Seth cancel orders over 300 euros."

  • "Seth pronounces our brand name wrong."

  • "What questions is Seth failing to answer?"

  • "Is my escalation set up properly?"

Tips

  • Say what you want, not where it lives. You don't need to know which tab a setting sits on.

  • Read the card before you apply. It shows the exact wording that goes live.

  • Test after applying. Use the try Seth panel to try the change by typing, or call Seth yourself.

  • Give it something concrete. "Callers ask about delivery to Germany and Seth doesn't know" gets a better answer than "Seth isn't good enough".

  • Check back after new calls. Coach judges from your latest calls, so it has more to work with once Seth has taken a few.

Limits and things to know

  • Coach is available on every Seth you've created. It's in beta and free to use for now.

  • You get 200 Coach messages per week per Seth. The counter resets on Monday.

  • Coach can be wrong. It reads real data, but double-check anything important before applying.

  • Coach only talks about Seth and your store's phone support.

  • Applied changes are ordinary changes to your Seth. You can undo them in the dashboard the same way you would any other setting.

If Coach can't help with something, use the chat button in the bottom right corner of your screen and the Ringly team will pick it up. To see whether your changes are working, check the Analytics tab and your call history page, and read train Seth for the full picture of every lever you have.
